Our Belgian Malinois Family

At ROCKPAW K9S, Belgian Malinois hold a special place in our hearts. Known for their intelligence, drive, and loyalty, Malinois are remarkable companions — but they require the right training, understanding, and dedication.
Through years of hands-on experience, we’ve specialized in working with this incredible breed, including rescuing and rehabilitating two of our own Malinois from shelter environments.
Each of our dogs has a unique story, and together, they represent the foundation of our training philosophy: patience, trust, and the power of second chances.
Meet our Malinois family below.

Luna – The Loyal Guardian

Luna is a 3-year-old Belgian Malinois with a story that speaks to resilience and second chances. Originally rescued from a shelter by a kind-hearted animal lover, Luna was just days away from being euthanized. That same person reached out to us for help, and that's how Luna joined our family.

When she first arrived, Luna was overwhelmed by anxiety and struggled to adapt. She was destructive, reactive in public, and incapable of walking on a leash. However, with consistent, structured daily training, Luna has come a long way. She now walks confidently next to her handler, managing her anxiety in public, and focuses beautifully during training sessions.

Luna is incredibly loyal and sweet-natured, but don’t let her gentle face fool you, she’s fiercely protective of her family and always on alert.

Starla – The Gentle Herder

Starla came into our lives alongside Luna, also in need of a second chance. She was shy, extremely timid, and especially fearful around women. With over two years of steady patience, gentle guidance, and focused confidence-building, Starla slowly began to come out of her shell. We’ve watched her fears fade as she learned to trust, explore, and step into the dog she was always meant to be. Today, Starla has found her purpose. She’s our top goat herder and a quiet, watchful protector on our property. Though still naturally timid, Starla’s loyalty speaks volumes. Her calm nature and dedication are a true testament to the heart of a working dog.

Bane – The Inforcer

True to his name, Bane is a powerhouse. He is a full-blooded Belgian Malinois with unmatched drive and energy. Bane’s story is both heartbreaking and inspiring. He was found being dragged along the street by a homeless man, his paws bloodied and body emaciated. Two compassionate people stepped in, paying the man just to save him. The couple found us by chance, but we knew right away it was fate that brought Bane into our lives.

Since then, Bane has grown into a strong, maturing, and intensely loyal dog. He’s high-energy, sharp, and bold—everything a true Malinois is bred to be. While he still has a mischievous streak, his progress has been incredible. His bite work, in particular, is a true display of his drive and working instincts. He continues to channel his energy and focus into structured training and hard work.

Why We Rescue Belgian Malinois

At RockPaw K9S, our passion for rescuing and rehabilitating Belgian Malinois stems from a deep understanding of this remarkable breed—and a commitment to giving them the second chance they deserve.

Belgian Malinois are among the most intelligent, driven, and loyal working dogs in the world. Originally bred for herding, they now serve in roles ranging from police and military work to search and rescue. Their intense energy, focus, and need for purpose make them exceptional partners—but also challenging companions for the average household.

Unfortunately, this mismatch often leads to heartbreak. Many people adopt Malinois without fully understanding their needs, resulting in a growing number being surrendered to shelters or rehomed.

At RockPaw K9S, we've witnessed firsthand the transformation that occurs when these dogs are given the structure, training, and purpose they crave. Our rescues—Luna, Starla, and Bane—are living proof of the resilience and potential of Malinois when placed in the right environment.

The Belgian Malinois is not a casual companion. They thrive on challenge, structure, and partnership. Without proper training and engagement, they can become anxious, destructive, or even aggressive. However, with the right guidance, they excel in obedience, protection, scent work, and more.
